Problem Based Learning

Problem-Based Learning

Created at McMaster University and used in medical schools around the world, Problem-Based Learning (PBL) is driven by a realistic, ill-structured, challenging, open-ended problem. Students work in small, collaborative groups to discuss and define the problem, generate hypotheses, create goals, and organize research. The teacher acts as a facilitator to guide learning by asking open-ended questions. Students present their findings in a subsequent session with reflections on learning, problem-solving, and collaboration.
