Family Involvement

Discovery School acknowledges parents as full partners, with teachers and staff, in the education of their children. Discovery School maintains an open, friendly environment and welcomes parents to visit the school and their child’s classroom. Our concept of Parents as Partners goes far beyond the traditional understanding of parent involvement. An involved parent is one who is involved in their child’s whole life and who has the opportunity to be active in nearly every aspect of the school’s operation. Studies have proven that support from home strengthens school efforts, making it more likely for academic success for students. Through our Parents as Partners Contract, family members commit to a minimum of 30 hours of service each year. Parents can support their child’s learning in a number of ways, including their assistance in the creation of a Personal Education Plan for their child, participation at parent workshops, involvement in student-led conferences, and attendance at PTO meetings throughout the school year.
